When you look at the new and different entries within the Surface line though , it becomes much harder to decide which is best. To try and nail it down, we pitted the Surface Pro 6 versus the Surface Book 2 and compared them on design, performance, and portability. For a look at some of our other favorite 2-in-1s, check out our buying guide. It feels solid, professional, and high-quality — although you would expect as such with its high price tag. Since both devices have detachable keyboards, they are each incredibly light during tablet-mode, with the Surface Book 2 somehow coming in ever so slightly lighter at 1.

But it's the Surface Book 2 that sits at the top of the Surface product line-up OK, so there's the professional-grade Surface Studio desktop, too. And yes, we know there's the Surface Go as well, but that's not a pro-level device. So how do the three pro-level Surface portables compare? All three devices aren't changed much in terms of design from their predecessors, with the changes mostly taking place under the hood. Surface Book 2 did include a USB-C port on the outside of the enclosure, but the other two devices don't. Like its predecessor, Microsoft Surface Pro 6 has a new hinge system on the kickstand, which allows it to be used in Surface Studio mode.

This lineup doesn't include the business-orientated Surface Hub interactive whiteboard for corporates, or the upcoming Surface Neo and Surface Duo due in late Those latter two devices are completely new areas for Surface, but they're a long time off. Confused about which one might be the one for you? No worries. Microsoft is targeting Apple iPad users and Chromebook users with this device, as it's the smallest Surface available and the cheapest. The Surface Pro 6 is a Windows 10 Pro 2-in-1 PC with a detachable keyboard, but it's definitely not for people who want a conventional laptop. It retains the same design as the last couple of generations but the internals have been updated.

  1. The Surface Pro 6 and Surface Book 2 are two very different devices, Sure, it's the more expensive device in this comparison, but you get so.

  2. Microsoft may be best known for its software, but the company has been working away studiously over the last few years, creating a range of laptops and tablets that marry serious specs with desirable design.
